Silence
The voice
Once silenced
By the thunder of fists
The kick of a dog
The shame of childhood
Years of abuse.
The haze of narcotics
Glistening shards of a mirror.
Mental torture
Rigid shackles of weight
Body fascism.
That voice once silenced
Is now awake
Proud and elegant
In its femininity.

Looking Glass
(for Prince Phillip)
In the gateway to the underworld
Virtually anything is possible
Electric squid
Guard the riverbed
From parasites and impostors
While the sole fish
Flat as pancakes
Still crave for more.

The Garden
(for Keeley Hazel)
Isn’t the path lovely again?
That we walked with frightened eyes.
Aren’t the animals beautiful?
Our friends in disguise.
Don’t the flowers smell heavenly?
Almost too fragile to touch.
We wish upon a rainbow
For the ones we love so much.

Haunted
Ghastly ghosts
Howling at night
Blending into the cobwebs.
Hide and seek with spooks
My childhood entertainment.
One carries his head in his hands
Until the adults join in.

Quiet night
Two glasses
Of scotch whiskey
And the dreams
Just keep on coming.

The syntax of the soul
Seeps through at nighttimes.
Spiritual imagery
Fiery serpents
And the yearnings of the heart.

Easter Island
Hark to the call
Of the siren.
Empathetic and alluring
Our ritualistic dance of nature
Ushers in day.

Sacred
The love of an angel
Symbolized by
A white feather
On the floor.
A heavenly expanse
Beyond Jerusalem’s gate
Seals our bond
Evermore.

From Tanzania
To the Congo
Ethiopia to Kenya
She just keeps on
Shuttling’ along.

Craft
Alone
Awash on a bay
With just the sea reptiles
For company.
Two snakes envelope my legs
And coil to the top.

Halo
Sweet child of colour
The vaunted
The dispossessed.
Your tiny footsteps
Lead back to Africa
India
Japan
Mexico...
And the stars.

Soverign
Holiest of holies
Our joy is boundless
Your reign eternal
Supreme.
We look for you in nature
Smiling on the cosmos
In the Garden of Eden
Birds and angels sing songs
To glorify your name.
A tree stands
In the background.

Rooftops
On the rooftops
Catburglar
With a bundle of swag.
Through the chimney
Open windows
Everyday a new bag.
Mask punctured with eyeholes
Not even a sound
Is heard as delicately
He completes a new round.
A couple sleep
Husband hides a shotgun
Beside the door
Waiting for clues.
Counting down minutes of insomnia
As his wife completes her snooze
Tip toed
Outsmarted his neighbours
And two of his friends.
Best believe
Cat burglar
Won’t be in such a hurry again.
